A packed Toyota Coaster bus overturned on Dunrobin Avenue in the vicinity of Washington Boulevard around 8:30 pm Tuesday, injuring several passengers.
The bus was travelling from Half-Way Tree to Spanish Town.
The exact number of passengers who sustained injuries was not known, however they were transported to the Kingston Public Hospital and the University Hospital of the West Indies.
When contacted, the Constabulary Communications Unit (CCU) said only that the bus was involved in the accident. The CCU said the driver was in the process of overtaking when the bus hit a median in the road and overturned.
The accident came a day after a two vehicle crash on the Grants Pen Road in St Thomas resulted in some 30 people being hospitalised, some in serious condition. That accident also involved a Coaster bus operating as a public passenger vehicle and a private motor car. The driver of the car, which was travelling in the opposite direction, reportedly drifted into the opposite lane when it collided with the bus.
The bus driver had to be cut from the mangled wreckage by fire fighters. Speeding was also said to be a factor in that crash.
