Gunman Shot Dead by Police, Three Handguns Recovered
The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old farmer Jamal Jetto, a resident of Geneva in Grange Hill, Westmoreland.
Two handguns and a rifle were reportedly recovered from the dead man.
Reports are that about 2:00am the police were on patrol in the Llandillo section of the parish when they signalled a white motorcar with three men aboard to stop.
The driver disobeyed the command of the police but lost control of the vehicle that crashed into an embankment. The men reportedly alighted from the car, opening fire on the police and triggering a shootout in which Jetto was hit.
Jetto, who was later found clutching a handgun, was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. A search of a string bag he was carrying was found to contain two other guns.
