Gunmen Murdered a Man Standing Outside of Parliament in Kingston

Police investigators were Wednesday morning called to a crime scene near the Houses of Parliament in downtown Kingston, where a man was shot and injured just after 8:00 am.

Reports were that the man was standing near the corner of Beeston and Duke streets, across the road from where the Parliament building is located, when he was approached by a gunman who opened fire on him before escaping from the area on foot.

The targeted man was hit, and was rushed to hospital, and the area cordoned off for crime scene investigation.

Reports were that the nearby Kingston Gardens community was affected by gunfire overnight, resulting in a joint police/military operation there this morning, in which several persons were detained.

Among the scheduled activities of the Parliament today is the sitting of the Public Administration and Appropriations Committee, which was scheduled to get under way at 10:00 am.
