One man is dead and another in hospital battling for life after gunmen invaded a section of the east Kingston community of Rockfort on Wednesday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Angel Henry.
Reports are that close to 6:30 am, a large group of men with high powered weapons crept up on Oliver Road in the community, kicked in the door of several homes and began to rob residents of their valuables.
Armed men from the community reportedly retaliated and a gun battle ensued.
East Kingston Police, who were on patrol in the area, reportedly went to the area after hearing the explosions. Upon their arrival, the lawmen reportedly discovered the bullet-riddled body of Henry and another man suffering from gunshot wounds.
The injured man was rushed to hospital and has since been admitted in in serious condition.
Police were still processing the crime scene up to early Wednesday afternoon and said they had so far recovered more than 100 spent shells.
“Based on what we have seen on the ground, it appears men who went to the area had high powered weapons of various calibers,” a senior police officer explained.
The gun attack comes less than two weeks after a man was shot dead and two others injured metres away from the latest crime scene.
As the police processed the crime scened, residents expressed that the attack has left them on edge.
They also called for increased police presence in the area, and the intervention of other stakeholders including political representatives to tackle the problem of crime and reach out to the unemployed youths who are being recruited by criminals.
