Vybz Kartel Appeal Went Well, New Evidence Request Accepted by Judge
Incarcerated deejay Vybz Kartel and his defence team consisting of Valerie Neita Robertson and Tom Tavares-Finson are celebrating the notion by the judge in today’s appeal trial to accept new evidence involving the entertainer and his co-accused, Shawn “Shawn Storm” Campbell, Kahira Jones and Andre St John.
The members of the Court of Appeal, president Justice Dennis Morrison, Justice Patrick Brooks and Frank Williams accepted two of the three issues presented by the appellant’s defence team today, June 9, 2018.
A third request raised by the defence team was denied, which was a notion to cite fresh evidence regarding statements made by Kimberly Cranston and jurors who made two statements in the corruption trial of juror Cain Livingston.
Kartel’s lawyer, Valerie Neita-Robertson made arguments that the jury was contaminated and declared that the media coverage provided during the trial had influenced their decisions.
Kartel and his co-accused went forward with their appeal for reasons stemming from alleged prejudice by Justice Lennox Campbell, who accepted what the defence attorneys are describing as ‘contaminated evidence’, which was the phone used as a primary evidence in the convicting of the deejay, the very phone that showed signs of usage while in police lock up.
